2012 May Have An Apocalypse, But The Metal Will Live On

It's been a while since I did a blog that featured my opinion of pretty much anything, so here's a random post with lots of opinions!

I played the PSN demo for Resident Evil 6; all three sections of it.  Leon's section felt a lot like RE4, which was a very good thing.  It wasn't terribly fast, but the characters had a proper sense of urgency and even with lots of action, it still felt all survival based.  It didn't feel like the point was to kill all zombies, but rather to complete objectives and get the hell out of Dodge.  Chris and the new guy's sections however, feel like third person shooters with terrible controls.  And that's a problem for me.  It would be better if the controls opened up and things like aiming got more comfortable for the pace when playing these sections, but instead everyone controls like Leon, and I just feel handicapped.  I mean, I have 10+ enemies to deal with at one point, and I'm using the same controls that take me forever and a day to aim at and kill one.  It just doesn't feel right, so I'll likely be skipping the retail package until it's super cheap, and even then I might not go back for it.

I also bought Darksiders 2 (for about half off!), which has been a mixed bag so far.  On the one hand, I love Zelda-esqe games, and this fits that bill.  On the other hand, it's not even close to Zelda's league, and the loot is starting to annoy me.  I like that you can find stronger weapons and all that, but it kind of takes all the significance out of your weapons that there's constantly better stuff to find and TONS more worthless crap to hoard until you find a merchant.  It's different from finding loot in say Borderlands, because Darksiders is so much more in the Zelda vein, and Zelda games put much more emphasis on each weapon and it becomes a big deal to find them.  I'm finding it hard to really stick with it right now, but that'll probably get better with time.  Aside from the loot so far, it's very similar to the first game, and I really enjoyed that one.

I tried to buy Witchcraft's new album Legend today, and apparently that's just not in the cards for people in the US.  I went to the two in-person sources I have left for CD purchases, Movie Trading Company and Best Buy.  Neither one has received any copies of the CD yet company wide, and neither one planned on getting any locally anyways.  I could download it for $8.99 right now, but I'd rather get the physical copy.  I'll probably cave before long though and just buy it.  Meanwhile, I'm expecting a whole hot mess of other albums to be acquired in the very near future to keep me distracted from it.

Heavy Metal has officially been played not just in space, but on another planet.  The Mars Rover played Anthrax's cover of "Got The Time" as the first Metal song played on the Red Planet. Now I don't wanna sound bitchy or anything, but why did the first Metal song in space have to be an overhyped Thrash band's cover version of a Joe Jackson song?  If it were me, I would have made sure that the first Metal song on Mars was Manowar's "Hail And Kill".  Nothing says "This is my planet now, Bitch!" like a Power Metal battle song!

With Witchcraft's Legend coming out today (even though I didn't get it yet), I now only have two major albums left to look forward to in 2012: Dethklok's Dethalbum III and Wintersun's Time I.  Does anybody know of anything else good I should be checking out when it arrives?

Everyone who isn't signed up for the ULG's second season yet needs to do so, or else you won't be cool.  You want to be cool, don't you?  The league still needs some captains in every league, and more players in general wouldn't hurt either.  So tell your friends, bribe your enemies, and spread the word.  We're looking to start things up in just a few weeks now.
