In case you don't know, 81jono81 is hosting a competition that is due for the 28th, where all participants submit an original concept for a brand new game franchise.  Naturally, I have a few dozen concepts just laying around that I'm never going to actually do anything with, so I picked a select few and will be revealing them all this week.  Today's is the third.  Be sure to check out the competition post in the link above, and keep checking back all week long for my other concepts.  Ultimately, I can only choose one to enter, and I haven't decided which one it will be yet.  So I will ask you guys to tell me how you like each concept, and at the end of the week let me know which concept you'd like to see enter the competition officially.

Dr. Bognár is a lonesome, award winning biologist who has crafted himself a wife in his laboratory.  All he needs to vitalize his bride is a brain.  A young woman of intelligence named Caitlyn wakes up in the isolated manor, home to the evil scientist and all of his questionable creations.  Caitlyn has no intention of letting Dr. Bognár extract her brain to use in his bride, and does her best to escape the creepy manor filled monsters, booby traps, hidden rooms, secrets, and terror.

In terms of gameplay, this is going to be part survival/horror/stealth and part puzzle experience.  She will have to avoid the doctor and his small army of beastly creations while stumbling her way through the unusual architecture looking for a way to escape.  She will face challenges that test her brains and brawn as time goes on, as well as deal with the side effects of the drugs used in her initial capture.  This is not intended to be an action game, but Caitlyn will be able to throw some punches if she has to.  However, the more she tries to use violence to escape, the more she will hurt herself in the process and the weaker her attacks become.  Using tact and stealth becomes paramount to survival.

Over time, Caitlyn will discover that all is not what it seems, as the Bride will eventually awake without Caitlyn's brain.  The Bride will prove a challenging foe, hell bent on finding Caitlyn.  She will be a very capable foe and soon begins employing the skills of a true hunter to find Caitlyn.  Caitlyn has no choice but to try and McGuyver up a trap of her own to turn the tables on this predator on her tail, but when she succeeds a revelation is made that shocks Caitlyn to her very core.  The Bride will reveal to Caitlyn that she is physically unable to disobey Dr. Bognár, but mentally is not on his side.  She was a young girl just like Caitlyn, captured shortly after Caitlyn as an insurance policy in case Caitlyn's brain reacted negatively to the Bride's body.  The girl reveals that she is a prisoner in this body, and asks Caitlyn to do the unthinkable: she asks Caitlyn to kill her, but admits that doing so will allow Dr. Bognár to catch up with her and capture her again.

The player then has a choice, which will determine the final chapter of the game.  The player can either go through with it, kill The Bride and in doing so expose her location to Dr. Bognár.  The doctor will successfully take Caitlyn's brain and put it in a different body, and the game will end with a scene featuring a monologue from Caitlyn where she reflects over her decision to save the other girl, and reveals that she plots to find a way to overcome the mind control so she may finally kill the doctor.  On the other hand, the player can choose to leave the other girl to her torment and try to escape.  Knowing that the doctor is on his way to the Bride, Caitlyn stealthily makes her way back into his lab and steals his keys, allowing her to walk out the front door.  After seeing her run away from the manor, she will eventually be picked up by a hitchhiker, and the scene will imply that she is safe.  The next scene will fast-forward to when she is home, and will show that she is still haunted by that moment when she left the other girl in her nightmares.  Caitlyn wakes up and gets a drink of water, when from behind she will hear The Bride's voice say, "Hello Caitlyn" in a sinister tone.  Caitlyn will turn around, terrified, and the game will focus on her face as fear turns to pure terror, and the game will cut to black before any scene of violence or any actual depiction of The Bride is made.

In both art style and music, I want there to be a lot of homage to the classic, 1930s era early horror movies.  Real Boris Karloff kind of style, if that helps put it into frame.  I won't go as far as to be in black and white, but I will probably try to lean on a goldish kind of filter for it to give it that classic kind of feel.

Let me know in the comments what you think of Dr. Bognár's Brainless Bride.  Whether you want to throw your money at me and tell me to get to work, or host a lynching to eradicate this abomination from ever seeing fruition, I will appreciate the feedback.
