A while back I posted that I was going to be playing through every game I own one more time, and trying to do it all before the PS4 and Xbone release. I'm sorry I didn't stay more on top of it to get other people involved, but I've just had some shit to deal with that took over my life this past month. But I don't want to talk about that.
July has been a fairly productive month of tackling this list. When July started I was playing through Dead Space 3 for the second time, and I picked up a few tidbits about the story that made sense of what I thought were a few plot holes in my first playthru. After that I tackled Batman: Arkham City. I originally thought I would finish up my platinum, but honestly I got too pissed off as some of the combat challenges early on and decided instead to just replay the story again. It was my 3rd time through, and I still maintain that Asylum is just slightly better because its story was more focused and more interesting. Next I played through Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I tried to go non-lethal, but I ruined it by hacking a turret. I thought I could get some easy XP by hacking it and then destroying it before it could do any damage, but I wasn't fast enough and it killed someone. I still played the rest of the way through hoping it wouldn't count, but it did. For shame.
After that I went back to Borderlands 2. I had the option of doing a true 2nd playthru with my Zero character, or do a 1st playthru for a different character. I went with the latter so I could trade some of my favorite weapons over and use them again, and as a result I chose not to focus too much on side missions. About 2/3 of the way through I got kind of bored with it and had to try and force myself to grind through to the end so I could move on to the next game. I don't know if you've ever done that for whatever reason, but it kind of kills all of your enthusiasm for the game even after you're finished. Following that I played through Resistance 3, which worked out kind of well because it fell in line with a few episodes of Falling Skies on TV that got me more into the setting. Despite the crazier weapons and alternate history angle, R3 feels a LOT like I think a Falling Skies video game might.
Once I was done with that, I moved on to PS All Stars: Battle Royale, which I didn't linger on for too long. I decided to try for the remaining trophies and get the platinum, and I managed to get all but two. The remaining trophies however feel just out of my reach without partnering up with other people to manufacture it, and I don't really want to do that. So I just moved on to the next game, L.A. Noire. As much as I wanted to find the last few remaining cars and get my platinum for it, I couldn't stand aimlessly running around for hours doing nothing but commandeering vehicle after vehicle with no progress, so I decided to just get through the story and move on. I still really enjoy the core game, but it's one of the most disappointing trophy situations I've had since trophies have existed.
After that I played through Killzone 2. It had been a while; just long enough that I had forgotten how exciting it was to see Rico portrayed as a good soldier/leader, and how disappointing it was that ultimately they went back to making him the hard-headed idiot. After I was done with the campaign, I moved on to Infamous 2. I have been a vocal minority in saying that the first game was better, but stand alone right now I did love the hell out of the second game. There's a few parts that I wish were done better, just in terms of setting and camera control, but I honestly will have to compare it again when I get to the first game.
Most Recently I finished my Far Cry 3 replay. Initially, I wanted to get the co-op trophies to finish out my platinum, but I do not have a Uplay passport, and the game locked me out of online multiplayer until I buy one. I managed to finish three of the six missions before it locked me out, so I figured I could try to leave a second controller locally on a charger and just play through on my own, but you have to have a separate profile logged in to play locally, and I don't have the hard drive space for another profile. So in lieu of my desired goals, I am replayed the story for the third time.
So I finished about 10 and a half games in July. Not a shabby feat by any means; I need to average about 9-10 games per month in order to pull this off in time, but all three of my Bethesda games are still to come on this list. Will I be able to pull it off? We'll just have to wait and see.
